How Painful is a Dental Implant?  Do They Hurt?

Dental implants are the most effective solution for millions of Americans when they chose a restoration option for their teeth.  Thousands of patients have trusted Dr. Lampee because of his experience, attention to detail and honest recommendations.  He has successfully placed countless single and full mouth implants at Dr. Lampee Dentistry in Beaverton, Oregon.

Dental implants are so desirable because of their multiple benefits. Not only do they look like natural teeth, but they function like real teeth, too. Furthermore, they prevent the loss of bone mass that is common in the jaws of people who have lost teeth.   With dental implants, you can eat whatever you’d like, and you no longer have to be embarrassed of your smile.

At Dr. Lampee Dentistry, your comfort is our number one priority.  We take all necessary steps to ensure you are comfortable and understand every step of the process for dental implants.

Does dental implant surgery hurt?

Many patients wait years to see a dentist after they lose a permanent tooth because they do not want to experience pain, discomfort, or spend months or years in a dentist chair.  Fortunately, for our patients, dental implants are easier than expected and life changing.

However, some patients hesitate when they hear the phrase “implant surgery.” That word, surgery, causes people to think of operating rooms, pain, and long recovery periods.  We assure you; this is not the case with Dr. Lampee.

Placing a dental implant does involve putting a titanium post in your jaw, most patients are pleasantly surprised at how simple it is. The procedure is completed in a dental examination room. You are thoroughly numbed before it begins and the best part is, It is finished within an hour.

All of our patients report that it was easier than they expected and are able to resume their ordinary activities the same day.  They also report that with the numbing they feel no pain at all.  Many of our patients also choose to be sedated for the utmost in comfort.

Am I a good candidate for dental implants?

Most people are good candidates for dental implants.  The first step is to have a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Lampee.  He will complete a full examination that will include an evaluation of your jaw, teeth, mouth, and overall health.  Dr. Lampee will evaluate the health of your bone and recommend a unique treatment plan that has your best interest in mind.  He always does what is right for his patients.

From the time you step into the door, our team will ensure that you are well taken care of.  Unlike other dental implant clinics, we do not have a “business quota” to meet and will inform you of all your options that will help you meet your goal for improved dental health and a beautiful smile.  We do not hide any of our fees and we are very upfront about the costs for your entire treatment plan.

Dental implants are probably going to be one the best things you do in your life.  Everyday Dr. Lampee sees patients who have the procedure done and their lives have been changed.   They can finally chew food again.  Their health is better.  Their diabetes, autoimmune disorders, and energy levels improve.  They can smile again, which means they can put their best foot forward in life and seize the day.  Their confidence is beaming.  Dental implants by Dr. Lampee changes lives.

How long is the dental implants recovery?

Everyone is different. A soft diet is required right after the dental implant is placed.

There are several variables, including:

  • Whether you’re having one or multiple implants
  • Whether bone grafting was needed first
  • Your overall dental health and general health

However, it will not be longer than a week before all minimal post-surgical pain, swelling, and bleeding is gone. It will be another few months before the implant has completely fused with the bone.

Once you feel comfortable you will be able to eat anything!
